I Loved the 90s

To kill some time, I decided to read a list of 90’s-related items. “Some time” became hours, laughing at the ridiculousness of the end of the century (or millennium… take your pick). I decided to compile my own list of what came to mind while reading. Enjoy!

First of all, it’s time the Trix Rabbit got what he wanted! I was sure the Carebears created the Nutcracker Suite and the ballet simply copied it. Captain Planet was my hero. Thanks to Frogger (and an unfortunate mowing experience one summer) I no longer mow the lawn. Cinnamon Sugar Pop Tarts are obviously the best. Hands down, Zach Morris was my first crush. I think I’m going to reread the BFG. I still listen to Raffi’s Christmas music. I should have known that Beanie Babies would go out of style… anyone want to buy 100 of them? Will anyone ever know where in the world Carmen Sandiego is? If you ever want to play Clue, I’m in (dibs on Ms. Scarlet). When Michael Jordan retired (the first time), I stopped watching basketball. I loved my SkipIt, but was I actually skipping? The world leaders should consider researching the mechanics behind Easy Bake Ovens to solve the energy crisis. A little piece of me still believes that the Magic School Bus could happen. Thank goodness I don’t own scrunchies anymore! Red Rover was fun… until I was clotheslined. For me, Ringo Starr was the conductor of Shining Times Station long before he was a Beatle. Oregon Trail day in computer lab was what we lived for. The coolest houses were the ones with zip lines and/or trampolines. My mom thought Sister, Sister was a bad influence, yet I could watch Friends… something didn’t quite add up. My Sea Monkeys did not survive long. The greatest summer days were the ones you didn’t leave the water, except to grab a hot dog off the grill then sneak back in before your 15-minute wait time was done. I bet the first thing that comes to mind when I say School House Rock is Conjunction Junction, am I right? I thought I would make a great hairdresser; my Barbies would argue. Aimee Loranger and I probably ate our weight in Cheese Balls. Jellies should make a comeback; I’m just putting it out there. Did anyone ever beat Myst? A character on Lois and Clark had a watch that told when someone was lying… I was so afraid someone in real life would have that too! I want to scream every time I see a Magic Eye book… how the hell do you see a dolphin?! Not all lifeguards can deactivate a nuclear device, thanks for lying to us Baywatch. Poor Luigi could never live up to Mario. Dr. Seuss should have written a full dictionary. I could still build an amazing Legos masterpiece, but don’t demand I do it with the 2x3 blocks… that’s absurd. Backstreet Boys > N’Sync all day, but that doesn’t mean the Backstreet Boys should come back. Do the company workers know the Air Heads mystery flavor? I asked my mom to take me to buy Pogs and a slammer… what were they? I would like to apologize to all the teachers who had to correct papers written with neon glitter pens. That reminds me, I could really go for some scented markers right about now! The best trick-o-treating bag was my pillowcase. I would love to paint happy little trees like Bob Ross. I wonder how much paper children ingested due to Candy Buttons. I will never be able to rap, unless it’s the Fresh Prince of BellAir theme song. Poking a straw into a Capri-Sun pouch still makes me flinch.

Kitten, Kinsale, and Snow... oh my!

A lot has gone on in the past two days. Here is the Reader's Digest version... Friday: volunteered bright and early, bought my first Christmas tree, was flipped off while driving for the first time (that I'm aware of), adopted a kitten (yay!), baked gingerbread cookies with Adam and Jill (aka ate half the dough...), and watched Elf to kick-off the holiday season... Saturday: not nearly as busy but still exciting thanks to the first snow while pouring and mixing drinks at the Inn! It's funny how snow has the ability to transform me into a giddy little girl. The world becomes quiet. Peaceful.
The kitten is doing well during her first few days. She's a bit skittish, but she seems to be adjusting. The biggest problem remains her name. I can't make up my mind. People are throwing names at me willy-nilly and I'm becoming more and more confused. Tessie was a possibility, due to it's Red Sox reference. Chloe seemed adorable. Bella was the first name that came to mind. Ultimately, though, I think I'm going to call her Luna. It's unique and also relates to the time I adopted her. This month we will have a blue moon (which means two full moons in one month... the first came on the 1st, the next on New Year's Eve!). I like that her name has a slightly deeper meaning (plus, she's darker in color and seems to have a mysterious character... somewhat like the night... yes, it's a stretch, but what the heck?!). If anyone knows something better, by all means let me know! I'll keep you updated as the weeks go on :)
